ce9e7622-7d4e-4dcf-9636-0785fd1ebf01The Ice Bucket Challenge has taken the world by storm these last few weeks and helped raise millions of dollars to find a cure for ALS. Steve Avery (co-designer of Nothing Personal and all around miscreant), in all his infinite wisdom, decided this week to start issuing a challenge of his own to all board gamers – The Dice in the Mouth Challenge. This challenge is geared towards helping Dan Patriss (Host of the Geek All-Stars and friend of The League) raise money for his Gamers for Cures charity. All profits raised by Dan’s charity are donated to the Turner Syndrome Society of the United States to help patients and families understand, diagnose and treat Turner Syndrome; a chromosomal condition that affects development in females.

The challenge is simple; donate $5 to the Gamers for Cures and then tweet a goofy picture of yourself with your favorite dice (hopefully washed) in your mouth. When tweeting, be sure to include the hastag #DiceInMouthChallenge and challenge 2-3 of your friends to participate and help spread the word. That’s it.

I will be the first to admit that I am not very familiar with Turner Syndrome. Through this challenge, as well as Dan’s infectious personality and desire to do his small part, I found myself doing more and more research to educate myself on this condition affecting over 70,000 women across the United States. I certainly understand that personal financial situations may not allow us to donate to every cause that we would like to but I strongly urge you to at least take part in the dice challenge (don’t choke) and spread the word amongst your friends. Word (or Dice) of mouth can be just as powerful as a monetary donation.

Come join the fun and help spread the word about this extremely worthy cause. A number of popular board game personalities have taken part in this challenge already. Have a look!

EDITOR-IN-CHIEF/PODCAST CO-HOST : Allow myself, to introduce myself. Boardgaming since the womb, I have an unsound infatuation with buying, playing, discussing, photographing, and writing about boardgames. As a boardgame aesthetics enthusiast (say that 5 times fast) you'll typically find that I spend a large majority of the game examining the design, art, and components. I prefer strategic eurogames but will play just about anything these days (except Arkham Horror). And I love Pearl Jam.
