Kickstarter Spotlight – January 30th

After a slow few weeks, there’s been a sudden burst of new and interesting projects available! While Kickstarter’s switch in payment processing systems may prevent me from backing anything for a while, here’s a few bits that I found worthwhile!

Conan

by Monolith Board Games LLC

Conan the Cimmerian, the Barbarian, the Conqueror, the Destroyer… a mighty man, but a man all the same, one of many titles and talents and brought to life by the tales of Robert E. Howard and others, returns again to the tabletop in this project from Monolith. Unlike FFG or Ares’ Age of Conan, this version, simply entitled Conan, has the roots of its design firmly embedded in the Hero Quest or Decent-style scenario play. Featuring a plethora of promised miniatures and nicknacks, funding is already nearly at a cool one-point-five million dollars with 12 days left in the campaign.

“Let me live deep while I live; let me know the rich juices of red meat and stinging wine on my palate, the hot embrace of white arms, the mad exultation of battle when the blue blades flame and crimson, and I am content. Let teachers and priests and philosophers brood over questions of reality and illusion. I live, I burn with life, I love, I slay, and am content.”

Trickerion – Legends of Illusion

by Mindclash Games

Trickerion – Legends of Illusion is a 2-4 player worker-placement game, set in a world of magic and mystery. Competing as rival Magicians, you must develop new acts and impressive tricks in order to woo the jaded crowds at each of the weekly performances. Grow your fame, and perhaps you’ll be named the next Lord Of Illusion, with all that it entails.

Mindclash Games has packed a ton of components into the retail release of this game, and are even including one or two additional expansions into the project, depending on pledge level ($49 / $59).

Greetings.

I’ve been following your work for a while. You are a talented, cunning magician, with no lack of ruthless ambition. I offer you the opportunity you’ve been waiting for.

I, Dahlgaard the Magnificent, personally invite you to a six-week contest between Magoria’s finest magicians, a spectacle the city has never seen before. Succeed, and earn fame and fortune beyond imagination. Win, and inherit the mighty Trickerion Stone, my most prized relic. Or fail, and be forgotten. This is your chance to become the next Legend of Illusion.

Let the contest begin!

Tiny Epic Galaxies

by Gamelyn Games

Proving that the “Tiny, Epic” X train keeps on rollin’, Gamelyn Games brings out their latest, and most involved creation in the series: Tiny Epic Galaxies. Featuring a ‘standard’ edition at $16, and a kickstarter-exclusive ‘deluxe’ version with a satellites and super-weapons expansion included for $24, the price is probably right for a game of this type.

In Tiny Epic Galaxies, each player controls their very own galaxy! From which they will develop their empire by managing resources, expanding their fleet, colonizing planets, and exploiting their enemies’ position.

SENIOR EDITOR : Refined gamer, collector, consummate geek. Hoarder of miniatures, reluctant painter. My tastes run towards the strategic side of the fence, with city / civilization / empire builders at the focus. I've moved away from direct-conflict games these days, unless they're two-player or one versus many, so one can properly admire the beatdown put upon the opposing side. Yes, I've been known to wear hats with fuzzy ears on them.
